Mid North Coast May 2022

Mid North Coast Branch
Our branch meetings have continued even though the numbers have dropped quite significantly and without any doubt the Covid restrictions are at the head of the queue for blame.

But we are getting out and about in the area. Jim Marchment is one of our founding members and is also one of the most committed to community activities, as well as our group. A few of our members have been stalwarts to many local agricultural shows and community gardens over the past few years and Jim is always there to help and, of course, spread the word about our native bee species.
Of particular interest is his passion for solitary bees. He has many structures in his garden – “bee hotels” – and has conducted several rewarding displays and workshops on his construction techniques at local nurseries and schools.

On April 30th Lake Cathie Community Hub & Garden ran their Autumn Fair and this incorporated the Grand Opening of the Community Garden. Our group was invited to set up an ANBA stand. As you can see from the photos it was fantastic!! Jim presented a wonderful display of his handcrafted bee hotels and gave visitors to the stall a hands-on experience.

Many sincere thanks to Jim for his expertise, time and effort, especially in making new hotels for the exhibit, and to some of our other members who helped on the day.
Our next meeting is scheduled for June 2nd – 7pm at Laurieton United Services Club, Laurie-ton.
